Italia Part 1: Venice

Ciao! Just returned from my wonderful week in Italy. Italy has been by far my favorite country thus far, wish I could have stayed longer! Cody and I left early last Friday morning to make our way to Venice by plane. It was snowing in Prague the morning we left so we were ready for some warmer weather! Getting from the airport on the mainland to Venice and then finding our hostel in Venice was quite the adventure.. and took us a good 3 hours. Right away we learned that finding our way by street names is almost impossible since they are so curvy and there are so many streets. Luckily some older Italian woman saw that we were lost and got some younger girls to help us find our way. There are no cars in Venice so you either go by waterbus which only goes so far or walking. Eventually we found our hostel, but it wasn't so bad because we were just soaking in the rays and how beautiful Venice was. Once we found our hostel we went exploring around the city.

We found the San Marco square and went up the bell tower for an awesome view of the city. On clear days you can see the alps from the top of the tower.

 San Marcos Square^

The clock in the San Marcos square reminds me a lot of Prague's astronomical clock^

We walked around to a lot of the sights Rick Steve's and our hostel person pointed out. Then we went on a gondola ride around the canals :) Gondola rides aren't cheap so luckily we found another couple to go with us to split the cost and it was definitely worth it!

The next day we took a 30 minute bus (boat) ride to the nearby water city called Burano. Burano is the most colorful city I've ever seen, every house is a bright color and no two houses can be the same color next to each other. It was so cute! One of my favorite places to visit, although there isn't much to do except walk around. Unfortunately it was cloudy that day, but still colorful! No rain can ruin Burano's parade.

The rest of the day we kept exploring and finding cool things around Venice. The food was amazing- Italian is my favorite, so I was in heaven. As beautiful and amazing as Venice was (one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen) it wasn't very practical to stay too long because of the lack of transportation and the high costs of everything. Still, I loved Venice and was sad to leave. We left Sunday afternoon and headed to Florence!

The last good-bye.
